Social Awareness

Arguably the most innocent of souls. In any species, their primal responsibilities is to protect them, nurture them and educate them. There is no bigger wrong than stealing the right to a better life of those, who were created by us in the first place.

Few organisations that I have found noteworthy:

• Akshyapatra Foundation: Serves mid-day meals to sizeable unprivileged children across the country
• Save the Children: Attends to the children in need, torn apart by wars around the world
• Doctors of the world: Conducts extensive work in child protection in conflict areas, promoting sexual and reproductive health among other focus areas
• Kids alive foundation: Serves orphans and vulnerable children in multiple countries
• The Lucy Faithful Foundation (UK): Provides coaching and support specifically to prevent child sexual abuse

Imagine you lived like a legend, intellectually-morally-economically and otherwise. And imagine your grandkids or even your kids have no idea what you achieved, how you lived or the wealth of knowledge and wisdom you gained. Well… that’s the plight of most countries and cultures today, at least the ones I’ve seen. No development is worth ignoring the efforts of our ancestors and no prize is worth losing the wisdom of our predecessors.

Few organisations that I found noteworthy:

• Smart History: One of the best online accumulation of cultural wisdom (apart from Wikipedia.org)
• INTACH: A rich source and sponsor to promote cultural wisdom and heritage
• NRLCCP: National body for conservation of cultural property
• Europa Nostra: One of the main organisations that strives to protect cultural heritage (apart from EU)

With due respect to all issues we hear today. i.e. climate change, gender equality, refugee crisis etc. It is my humble opinion, that we are addressing the symptoms, but not the root cause (over population). Speaking in numbers, this got to be the most pressing problem of this century. We live in a world where the total population of the first 6 countries is more than the next of the 230 countries ‘combined’. And yet, we rarely seem to notice this elephant in the room. No discussion – countries are different in size and shape but the disastrous impact of over population is quite evident – on the imploding social structures, public facilities, immigration, irreversible depletion of natural resources and most importantly the miserably falling quality of life; and this is not just for the overpopulated countries but everyone on the planet.

By NO means, this is to discourage others from having their families. But promoting the need to understand the gravity of this problem, it’s consequences and making conscious decisions today for an equally fruitful future tomorrow.

• Ecopop: A swiss voluntary organisation that fights against over population and non-renewable resources
• World Population Balance: Informative knowledge, talks and initiatives on effects and measures to fight for the cause
• Population Connection: One of the early starters to identify the problem. Generate knowledge, training programs and other initiatives
• Population Matters: A great entry point to understand the seriousness of the problem
• Population Foundation: A silent but sizeable force working towards the cause

We are all same in that we are all special. For someone who gave life to us, took care of us as we grew, and complete our lives becoming half of us… the least we can do is to treat them with equal respect and opportunity. In today’s world, we are all increasingly susceptible to discrimination – gender, race, colour and what not. But women, perhaps a little more and therefore deserve our contribution in the empowerment of this other beautiful half of humans.

• Commit2Change: Empowers adolescent girls thru necessary education
• Sayfty: Empowers matured women fight against gender violence
• Wash United: Promotes hygiene around the topics of menstraution and sexual health to teenage girls
• Women on Wings: Promotes self-reliance of women thru various educational and training programs in rural regions
• Apne Aap: Promotes rescue and support of socially disabled women, specifically focussing on sex-trafficing
• Girls not Brides: Strives to eradicate child marriages and enable rescued girls for a future
• Sahara Manch: Promotes self-reliance in rural areas thru vocational trainings, micro-finances and coaching
